Emergency Kit

Some of the things you need in your kit are:

Portable radio/or portable t.v.

(Keep in mine, the power will be off and it's hard to say how soon it'll be online again.

Extra batteries
Flashlight
YOUR CELL PHONE

(It may be a few days or week before you can use the phone. Keep in mine this is for EMERGENCY calls only. Lines will be jammed as is.

Candles
Matches
First Aid Kit
Medications
Five-day non-perishable food supply
Ice Chest
Containers of water (2 quarts per person per day)
Sleeping bag or blankets
If you have kids, keep toys and stuff animals in the shelter. It helps them because they will be scared, frustrated, confuse and well...scared!
Books, magazines, something to distract others who are with you (easier said then done)
Important Papers

(Common sense, if it's valuable to you...this is the best place to store it in case of a disasters)

Personal toilet articles and sanitary needs
Disposable diapers
Clothing
Manual can opener
Cooking stove
Fuel for stoves, hibachis, or lanterns
Pet food

Keep your kit in your designated storm shelter and NEVER use the kit except for emergencies.

Rule of Thumb: Once in Spring and once in Winter, go over your kit and make sure everything is kept fresh and replenished.
